Wynton Marsalis gets top billing this year. This jazz musician, trumpeter, composer,
bandleader, advocate for the arts and educator has helped propel jazz to the forefront
of American culture.
Wynton Marsalis has produced a catalogue of more than 40 jazz and classical recordings
for Columbia Jazz and Sony Classical. In 1983, he became the first and only artist
to win both classical and jazz Grammy awards in one year. He repeated this feat
in 1984.
